CASE AGAINST ACCUSED IN THE AIX TRIAL United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. PARIS, Oct. 26. At the resumption at Aix-en-Prov-cncc of the trial of Catherine and Philomcne Schmidt and Georges Sarret on charges connected with the disappearance of persons after insurance, the Court, after discussing the mysterious malign power which Sarret and Catherine Schmidt alleged that each exorcised over the other, heard the evidence of Dr. Murat, who certified the death of Lady Arnould. vliilo she was with the sisters Schmidt. It was a natural death, with no sign of poison. Other evidence showed that Catherine’s husband, who died four months after ho was insured, lost live and ahalf stoue in weight in that period. Witnesses declared that Philomcne Schmidt went to a notary and arranged for power of attorney enabling her to cash the money from the insurance, owing to the alleged death of Catherine. The notary entered the box to confirm the story and fainted and was carried from the Court. Dr. Barral testified to making a post-mortem examination of the body of a consumptive girl, Magali Ilcrbin, who died while in the care of the Schmidt sisters. The examination disclosed tho enormous quantity of 2.7 grammes of zinc. Fifty centigrammes would be fatal. He considered that she was poisoned. Catherine Schmidt protested her innocence, declaring that Sarret often gave champagne to Magali, who complained of its. taste. The Court adjourned, after two witnesses nearly came to blows, necessitating the intervention of three policemen.
