Queen Carnival Notes

FARMERS’ QUEEN To-day the Farmers' Queen Committee will conduct a shop day in the Square, when housewives will be able to purchase at most reasonable prices produce of all kinds. There will be no procession or demonstration but the shop will be out to do business as long as stocks last. Competition Results. It is hoped that all those who have taken tickets in various competitions) wiE watch this column for the result of drawings. Here are a few of the lucky ones: Public Service Queen, City Council cake No. 2, Mrs. Downes, Telephone Exchange; Public Service Queen, silk stockings, No. .1524, L. McKay, Shannon; Public Service Queen, one bottle, No. 30546, winner unknown. Sports Queen, cigarettes, No. 6105, Barry Beckett. MASQUERADE BALL FOR PUBLIC SERVICES QUEEN Arrangements are now in hand for another big entertainment for the Public Services Queen (Miss Kathleen Richards), namely, the masquerade ball to be held at the Do Buxc hall on Thursday next. GRAND CONCERT TO-MORROW NIGHT A truly wonderful entertainment has been arranged for to-morrow night at the Regent theatre. The Public Services Queen Committee have been exceedingly fortunate in securing the services of Cluny MacPherson and his Royal Ambassador Stage Band who are at present touring New Zealand uner the direction of Messrs J. C. Williamson, Ltd. The band will appear at the Regent to-mor-row night. Another talented performer will be Mr. W. Crewes, a Wellington singer who has the distinction of having been chosen to sing the solos at the coming Philharmonic Society Festival at Christchurch. Local talent will be represented by Mrs. Keith Jones, Mrs. A. Potter and Mr. J. Jones, all of whom are well known to Palmerstonlans as exceptionally fine performers. Pictures will augment this programme which should be the most popular ever staged in this city. The proceeds of the admission charge will be handed to the Public Services Queen Committee in furtherance of the candidature of Miss Kathleen Richards. Y.M.C.A. GYMNASTIC DISPLAY Better than ever! Spectacular, bright and colourful. AVholesome entertainment appealing to all tastes; not a dull moment from beginning to end; that is the best way to describe the popular gymnastic carnival staged by the members of the local Y.M.C.A. To-night the final effort of 20 items interspersed with catchy choruses, appropriate solo numbers, and side-splitting interludes, will be presented to the public of Palmerston North, when the total proceeds will be divided between the Retailers’ and Plunket Queen committees. Both Miss Barnett and Miss Boon take a prominent *>art in the display, and together with 230 young men, ladies, girls and boys of Palmerston North, will help you chase the depression blues away. It is not merely a physical display, rather it is an entertainment of merit that ranks high in variety and appeal. Under the conductorship of Mr. Ivan Speight a fine orchestra of 11 instruments will furnish the incidental music and render many popular hits. The Bohemian dance proprietary has kindly consented to stand down its usual dance to-night in order that the complete orchestra will be available for the display. The prices of admission have been reduced to 2s in the circle, and Is to the stalls, which should ensure a capacity house of patrons who have not had the opportunity of witnessing this amazing' display, and of those who are desirous of attending a second time with the minimum of expense. A strong ladies’ committee has been formed to attend to the well-fiiled sweets stall at the entrance to the theatre, and patrons are invited to patronise this effort and help swell the funds.
