“A Country Girl”

The rehearsals of the Amateur Operatic and Dramatic Society for the production of “A Country Girl” arc now in full swing. Tho opening night is Tuesday next, and box plans for hou. members open to-day at tho Central Booking Office. Honorary members are advised to communicate with the bon. secretary, Mrs A. B. Hansel, as soon as possible, in order to obtain their usual privileges. Tho cast is an exceptionally good one and includes several well-known favourites. Miss Naomi Whalley will again be seen in tho part of “Nan," the village flirt, and Mr Fred Cousins revives the Bajah of Bhong. Mr Bert Eising will be scon at his best as Sir Joseph Verity, the fussy old gentleman who buys an ethereal tin mine from Barry (Mr Harry Palmer). This production marks Mr Palmer’s first appearance as comedy lead, and his rehearsals are showing promise of a performance . of. a difficult part with great distinction. The versatile Edna Boon, charming and vivacious, takes the part of Sophie, who becomes a “fine lady” at tho manor, and Mrs Brian Simpson, with true Eastern accent and carriage, accurately portrays tho Princess of Bhong. Her delightful voice is heard to advantage in many musical numbers throughout the play. The chorus and ballet are a credit to tho producer, Mrs Hulme, and tho spectacular “Ben dezvous” ballet with special lighting will be worth while coming a long distance to see.
