Queen Carnival Contest

PLUNKET QUEEN To-night at the Garrison Band hall a children’s party and dance will beheld by the Plunket Queen’s committee. Among tho special attractions will be tho appearance of “Cinderella” and her coach, drawn by six fairies. The quoen and her princesses will also be present. It is anticipated that there will bo a large number of kiddies present. SPORTS QUEEN At the Opera House to-night there will bo a boxing tournament, and lovers of the sport are assured of many exciting bouts. The proceeds will go to the Sports Queen candidate, Miss Molly Nathan. PUBLIC SERVICE QUEEN A treasure hunt ball at the De Luxe Hall to-night will be a novel entertainment for those who attend. Organised by the Public Services ’ Queen committee —a very live body—it should be an excellent function and well attended. RETAILERS’ QUEEN The Optimists and Business Girls have arranged a dance in the All Saints’ Hall to-night in support of Miss Edna Boon’s candidature. This will attract a, large number of young people engaged in business in the city, and the music and supper will be a feature.

GYMNASTIC DISPLAY To-morrow night at the Opera House the Y.M.C.A. will present a gymnastic display in aid of both the Plunket and Retailers’ Queens. This is the first occasion on which two committees have combined, and it speaks volumes for the happy relationship shown throughout tho contest. The pupils of the Y.M.C.A. classes can be relied upon to interest all patrons and a large audience should greet them. FARMERS’ DAY ON SATURDAY The Farmers’ Queen candidate’s committee has arranged for a shop day on Saturday. Their shop will be well stocked with produce of all kinds, and there will be no procession. Tho effort is worthy of the support of townspeople, and the location of the shop is next to Ekstedt’s in the Square. CONCERT SUNDAY NIGHT At tho Opera House on Sunday night there will be a concert arranged by the Public Services’ committee. Tho programme will be a most attractive one, and admission will be by silver coin.

COUNTRY DANCES TO-NIGHT Tie Farmers’ Queen supporters are leaving no stone unturned to secure pride of place for their candidate,. Miss Joan Russell. Newbury is noted for the thoroughness with which they do things in that locality, and to-night the whole district has united to present in the Newbury hall a euchre party and dance and supper. Admission is only a “bob,” and a large attendance is anticipated. At the Ashhurst Town Hall, also tonight, there will be a concert to be followed by a dance. The concert-pro-gramme will be contributed to by Palmerston North and Peilding artists. The various competitions running in Ashhurst district will also he drawn, and for these there are nine prizes. The price of admission is Is Gd, with ladies providing a baslcet. It will be “some” night in Ashhurst, and those who attend the function arc in for a good time. The proceeds are in aid of the Farmers’ Queen, Miss Joan Russell. TREASURE HUNT BALL Dancers are awaiting with keen anticipation the treasure hunt ball which will be held at the Do Luxe Hall tonight. As previously explained in these columns, the hunt is a special novelty introduced into the evenings fun, and takes the form of a competition, the idea being to sec which entrant can bring “home” the biggest number of articles from a given list within a specified time. Dancing, of course, will continue while the ‘'hunters” are out on the trail. The mirror ball novelty will be introduced again during the evening, which will be divided into old-time and modern dances. The proceeds of this function will be devoted to the Public Services’ Queen funds.
