Women's Round Table Club Formed
TO STUDY CURRENT EVENTS A representative group of business and professional women of Palmerston North has .for somo time been considering the possibility of the formation of a Round Table Club for the discussion and study of current events. Sponsored by the Y.W.C.A., a meeting was convened and held at tho Y.W.C.A. club rooms, Broadway, last evening, Miss McLagan presiding over an excellent attendance.
Miss Ashton, secretary of the Y.W.C.A., and convener,, outlined the preliminary arrangements leading- up t.o the meeting and the objects of tho proposed club which wero briefly: For tho honest and impartial study of current affairs and to make the effort through personal development to take a more adequate share in the moulding of community life.
After some discussion it was unanimously Tesolved to form a RoundTable' Club, to meet fortnightly in the evening, the first meeting to be held on October 9.
In. view of the approaching Disarmament Conference, it was agreed that •*Disarmament” should bo the subject for the first discussion, Miss Ashton being authorised to secure a speaker. Other business included the 'question of subscription, 'a,nd details concerning the first meeting. Tho veto of thanks to Miss McLagan was conveyed by Mrs Christian.
