Mr MacDonald Hopeful
Great Britain’s Sound Position
APPEAL FOR CONTINUED UNITY
British Official Wireless
Received Monday, 7 p.m. RUGBY, Sept. 23.
The Prime Minister appealed for continued unity and support of the National Government at a public meeting at Kilmarnock. He claimed that the strong position of Great Britain, both financially and industrially, was a result of the Government’s work during a period of extremo difficulty. Ho pointed to the rise which was taking place in wholesale prices, describing this as one of tho most scientific ways of increasing both the demand for labour and tho wages given to labour, and pointed out that, meanwhile, purchasing power had also been maintained.
Trade was showing many hopeful signs and British currency had earned the confidence and respect of the world. There had also been a fall in unemployment of nearly 500,000 sinco the beginning of the year. Ho said the Government was working to increase world consumption and secure by various moans a proper share for Britain of that increase.
