“The Best People"
BR.ILLIANT SEASON CONCLUDES
A highly appreciative audience laughed at and applauded unstintedly the final presentation of "The Best People” at the Opera House on Saturday evening, and the Palmerston North Amateur Operatic and Dramatic Society may well feel proud of its brilliant achievement in this clever comedy, reaching as it did the highest artistic success of its career. All the characters in the strong cast acquitted themselves admirably, and thoroughly deserved the lavish shower of floral and other tributes of which they were tlie recipients at the curtain. The president (Mr. Bert Jacobs) in a felicitous speech at the close of the entertainment referred to the fine work accomplished by the society on behalf of the distressed of the city, over £2OO having been raised for the relief funds. He particularly stressed the brilliant work of tho producer and stage manager, Mr. Fred Cousins, who was given an ovation by the audience on his appearance on the stage. This latest effort of the society, said Mr. Jacobs, crowned a succession of notable achievements by Mr. Cousins and it was undoubtedly primarily due to his experience, tact and hard work that "The Best People” had been such a striking success.
Mrs. Jacobs also eulogised the work of Mrs. H. Palmer (wardrobe), Mr. Con McGrath (property manager), and Mrs. A. E. Hansel (lion, secretary), and hearty applause was accorded these tireless workers.
