Manawatu jersey Show And Sale

RECORD ENTRY AND EXCEPTIONAL BUTTERFAT BACKING

The Manaivatu Jersey Show and Sale to bo held at the A. and P. Showgrounds, Palmerston North, on the 27th and 28th inst., is the eleventh fixture since its establishment. Tills year, a record entry of 237 head has been made represnting--73 leading breeders from every dairying district in the southern portion of the North Island and also Taranaki, Hawke's Bay and Wanganui. The increased number of entries makes it necessary to extend the sale this year to a two days’ fixture.

The catalogue this year is quite remarkable for the number of highly backed buttorfat sires. Practically every lot is supported with splendid records on the dam’s side and some of the most prepotent breeding female lines in the Dominion are represented. Breeders looking for lieyd sires are strongly recommended to attend this fixture as in addition to the progeny of the best New Zealand-bred bulls there will be found also the progeny of some of the most notable bulls imported to the Dominion. These represent the world’s most famous breeding strains and their sons from outstanding cows should prove admirable sires for introducing fresh, blood. The extension of the herd testing movement has very clearly demonstrated the value of using high class butterfat bulls for no matter how well fed the dairy herd may ho unless it has the ability to produce it will not return the maximum results. The prices ruling for bulls of superior breeding in the past three sons have given buyers an excellent opportunity of procuring real herd improving sires at very modest figures; in fact, many beautiful bulls have been bought for grade herds which in normal times would have found a ready sale for pedigree studs. Such bulls must prove, an enormous acquisition to the herds into which they have gone. The Manawatu Show and Sale to be held on Wednesday and Thursday next offers .to buyers a rare opportunity to secure highest quality bulls at reasonable prices. There is a substantial improvement in the prices for dairy produce already this . season and there is every reason to believe that im-: proved market values will be obtained for our produce henceforth. This suggests the advisability of farmers taking advantage of ruling prices for bulls and securing outstanding sires for their herds. It is desired to point out that the services of the stud stock experts of Messrs Y/right, Stephenson and Co., Ltd., are available to make selections on behalf of those unable to be present at the sale. .
