The chairman gavo it out that unite a number present liad been unablo to attend Sir Andrew Russell’s lecture, and in order to throw some light on the purpose of the Legion,, the Colonel said that it aimed at getting the best brains of the country into Parliament—-men who were broad-minded and strong enougn to vole for that which they considered would best serve the country. . Colonel Powles was elected leader, Mr. q. Wilson deputy leader, and Mr. R. Mackay secretary and treasurer. A permanent committe was set up, embracing ihose present and members of the initial provisional committee. several new members were elected, and it was decided to hold the next meeting on Octooer 11, when it is hoped to enrol further members.

The Rangitlkei Maori Tennis Chill’s euchre party,and dance which took place on Tuesday night was marred by rough rainy weather and in consequence the attendance was not as large as usual. .Mrs. Williams and Mr. T. Apirana won the most games at euchre, and Mrs. R. Rewiti and Mr. Jack Kcwiti won tne statue dance.

Thursday night’s downpour was responsible for heavy flooding in the Tutaenui stream, and for some hours on Friday morning the main road, opposite the Rangitlkei dairy factory was flooded to a depth of two feet, the flood waters completely encircling the factory residence and swirling dangerously near the front door. A pig farm some distance up the road was half covered with flood water, but fortunately none of the animals were in the danger zone. Mrs. C. B. Swairison, of Bulls, was a prize winner in two sections of the decorative class at the Marton bulb show on Thursday. Mrs. E. Oaldow also took prizes with anemones at the show.
