Riotous scenes were witnessed when the Government tried to auction six cows tiiat had been seized for non-pay-ment of Tipperary farmers' rates. Hundreds of farmers thronged the ring, and were amazed when a man, calling himself <Tohn Brown, bid £l4. He proved to be a policeman, and was the only bidder. He secured the cattle, and was thereupon attacked by irate anti-De Valera farmers.

The buyer’s coat was torn and his trousers were removed, and the crowd attempted to belabour him with sticks. Civil Guards rushed to the spot and escorted the policeman away, while farmers claimed the cattle. The owner sang "Tipperary,” and somebody called "Put up Deva for sale.” Many farmers aro supporters of McDermott.

Cows Unable to Find Home Received Thursday, 7 p.m. LONDON, Sopt. 20. The Times’ Dublin correspondent says that the adventures of the six cows did not end at the auction yard. “John Brown” attempted to ship them to England, hut the dockers and drovers refused to handle them and Civic Guards were again obliged to guard the unfortunate beasts, unable to find a home.
