Tennis Opening Day Fixed for October 14

The chairman commented that the "past season had been a very successful one and that the club had emerged with a satisfactory credit balance. Mr. R. C. Donald pointed out that equipment had been written down considerably and that the club was to be congratulated on the manner in which this had been accomplished. He urged members to concentrate on reducing other liabilities as soon as possible. With a successful season in the future, he thought this could be achieved and would mean puttiug the club in a more sound position than ever. Personally, he felt that the club had never previously been in a better position.

Officers Elected For Year. The following officers were elected for the ensuing esason:— Patron, Mr. H. N. Watson; president, Mr. R. 11. Spencer; vice-presidents, Mrs. G. E. Haggitt, Messrs H. L. Cooper, W. L. Fitzherbert, L. Gardner, A. M. Ongley, A. W. Thompson, J. W. Butherfurd, H. F. Gibbons and Dr. E. C. Barnett and Dr. R. V. Hooper; committee, Messrs J. T. McDonald, -T. Grant, L. Andrews, D. I. Robertson, C. Yates and W. Beattie; ground superintendent, Mr. A. E. Blackbourn; club captain, Mr. W. Beattie; sole' selector, Mr. H. N. Watson; hon. treasurer, Mr. R. C. Donald; hon. secretary, Mr. W. S. Fox; hon. auditor, Mr. K. C. Clayton; delegates to association, Messrs C. C. Yates and J. T. McDonald. Mr. A. E. Blackbourn had taken a great deal of interest in the grounds and, mainly through his efforts, the extra ground had been secured, the chairman stated.

Whereas there were three selectors last season it was decided at the meeting that only one be appointed. It was decided that the hon. secretary and treasurer be accorded the usual honoraria.

After the matter had been discussed it was resolved that a special ladies' committee, headed by Miss J. Barnett, be requested to furnish a report on the question of catering and to bring down a recommendation to be considered by the general committee. Subscriptions were fixed at: Ladies £2 ss, reducible to £1 17s 6d; men, £3 ss, reducible to £2 15s; country ladies £1 ;ios, reducible to £1 ss; country men £2, reducible to £1 15s; honorary members ss.

It was decided that the general, committee be given authority to increase the ladies 1 subscriptions if necessary. This course was deemed advisable in the event of catering being decided upon for afternoon tea, during the forthcoming season.

Opening day was fixed for Octoaer 14, subject to the approval of the ground superintendent. Eight new members were elected. A sub-committee consisting of Messrs Spencer, Grant, Gardner and Beattie was set up to revise the club’s rules. The chairman paid a tribute to the work of the secretary and other members of the committee, also Misses Barnett and Skerman and also to the groundsman.
