Assisting The Small Man
Aim of the Nazi Slate GERMANY’S BAD TRADE POSITION United Press Association —By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. Received Thursday, 7 pan. LONDON, Aug. 31. The British Embassy at Berlin, reporting on the trade year ended on *Juno 30, empahsises that since the advent of Hitler, the standards of a democratic, individualistic and istie State liko the United Kingdom, cannot be applied. Tko aim of the Nazis is to assist the small shopkeeper rabher than the large store, and. the craftsman rather than the industrialist. The ultimate objective is a corporative State in which there would bo only a few great corporations, embracing ad individuals in that occupation, whether employers or employed. International trade is, thus relegated to'a secondary place. Already Germany has suffered a considerable loss of exports, owing to retaliatory measures by foreign countries. It is useless to attempt to forecast Germany’s economic development during tho coming year. Heavy deficits in tho Budget persist and the capital market is.not in a fit stato of finaneo for recovery. There is a bad foreign position and. currency can only be kept stable by severe foreign exchange control, while tho departure of tho United States from the gold standard has increased America’s competitive power with Germany in international markets.
