The Japanese Government’s training ship Shintoku Maru has arrived at Auckland after a voyage of 6035 miles from San Diego (California). She carries 70 cadets in training for the mercantile marine. She will stay for the week-end and then sail for Kobe. The vessel is a four-masted barquentine, with auxiliary steani engines, and under full sail spreads 27,907 squaro feet of canvas. Sko can log 13 knots without the engines. Most of the cadets know some English and had heard of New Zealand’s scenery, climate and football. One politely inquired if the All Blacks were playing at Auckland on Saturday.

The Now Zealand Boxing Council, at its meeting on Friday night, appointed Mr. P. H. Donoghue, honorary instructor of the Mirimar Boxing Club, to be the trainer of the New Zealand boxing team which will visit Brisbane after the New Zealand championships.
