WOOL MARKETS UNEXCITED MR. DSVEREUX’S TERM EXPIRES.

LONDON, Aug. 20. Mr. W. P. Devereux, representative in London and on the Continent, of Australian woolgrowcrs, reports that although most commodity prices have shown declines, resulting from the American situation the wool markets on the whole have remained unaffected. Quiet markets are reported in all wool centres in the United Kingdom owing to the holidays. The French and Belgian markets arc described as slow. The Antwerp and Roubaix futures markets on resumption of business have largely recovered the decline previously reported. The announcement of the termination of Mr. Devereux's appointment has been ieceived with regret in Yorkshire wool-trade circles. Mr. Ayrton, president of the British Wool Federation, on being interviewed said, “We shall certainly miss him” (Mr. Devereux). “He was a valuable link between the growers and the buyers. He always faithfully represented our side of the question and was able to straighten out many difficulties. “The loss will be ours as well as Australia’s.” MEAT MARKETS LAMB REMAINS PIRM.
