LAW AND ORDER NOW RESTORED United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. Received Monday, 7 p.m. LONDON, Aug. 21. Nuri Pasha has telegraphed the Iraq Legation a* London: “No massacro occurred in Iraq. The only fighting was between the Government forces and armed Assyrian rebels, whom the bulk of the Assyrians helped the Government to pursue. The loss of life was limited to rebels and Government . forces. No women or children were injured or violated. There was trivial looting, but the stolen goods were restored or the owners indemnified. A few insignificant fires were reported in deserted villages. “Law and order has now been restored and Government guards placed in all villages for the security of the inhabitants. Major Thomson, the settlement officer, presides over the relief committees. “Tho instigators of the trouble aimed at a general massacre between the various Iraq communities, which the promptitude of the Government prevented.”
