Banned Wedding Drama

FATHER WHO SAID “NO” SUDDEN DEATH OF PARENT ■A father at Preston, Lancashire, whoCrefused to. sanction his daughter’s marriage was buried on April 10, when he should, have appeared at the police court to opposo tho girl’s application for magisterial permission to marry. Neither sido appeared when the case was called in court. When the couple were seen at the girl’s home, Miss Eileen Davies, who has just turned 20, said that her father had died suddenly. “My father did not give his consent to the marriage before ho died,’’ she said “but my mother has since told me that she would not object.’ ’ “Then you are to be married short lyl” she was asked. “No,’’ replied tho girl. Miss Davies 1 dance, Mr. Allan Nichol sou, aged 27, motor engineer, with evident surprise, then asked “What aren’t you going to marry mo now?” “I don’t know,” Miss Davies said and sho wiped tears from her eyes. Mr. Nicholson stated that it was tho intention of Miss Davies and himself to bo married, but not just yet “j. have just been to tho funeral,” he added, “and forgot lo inform the magistrates at Preston that I would not bo there to make my application. Miss Davies had stayed with a, married sister at Preston for a time The banns for her wedding wore published St. Luke’s Church, Preston. The vicar had told her that the consent of her parents would bo necessary as she was under ago. When the young couple arrived at the church for the ceremony the parents refused to give their sanction. Later, they made a further attempt to get married at tho Registry Office but the Registrar informed them that as he had reason to believe that the girl was under age he could not perform the ceremony. He advised her to try to get her parents’ consent.
