ECrMON-WANGANUI ; MEETING INFLATION WINS HA^DIC.tP^ •jy. (Special to “Times,") / . - -• 'WANGANUI, Last(Night/; . The. Egmont-Wanganui''• Hunt' Club 5 s anauaL race meeting -was held-at Wanganui on Saturday iu bright-sunshine, the attendance being very, satisfactory; The going was rather dead but the racing was interesting througuout in spite of the fact that only, the-placed horses.finished in. the. jumping, events. The-totalisator handled £2628 ■ 10s .compared with £8727 10s at the 1000 meet-ing-at Hawora. How They Ran Easy for Don Erma In a small pool in the Maiden Hunters’ Steeplechase Don Erma was best backed of the four contestants, carrying more than twice as much as anything else. The raco requires little description, for Don Erma went, into the lead at the first obstacle and stayed there to the finish. Coma fell at tkid fence, a, brush, and Don Erma led down the back and over the'hencoop a dozen lengths ahead oi Mangatapu, with Danzov a couple of lengths further back, Don Erma was a furlong in front as he jumped the double brush in'front.of the stands, and his rider took it cosy for the rest oi the journey, Danzov ran oil at the penultimate, obstacle and Mangatapu was - left _to .chase Don Erma homo,- the winning margin being, over thirty.lengths, a Hot Favourite Etiquette was a screaming hot favourite on both .win a’nd .placo machines for the Wereroa Plate, and proved the “good thing” the betting indicated. Icier was left when 'they were ' despatched 'to a straggling ’ start, ‘and Hawora. went out to make’ the pace for Etiquette (on the rails) and Tommy At ■Etiquette; (on tke rails, and Tommy Atkins piloted' the field across ’the top, followed by HaWora, Treasure - Hunt and Bust, but Etiquette .drew: out in the'run to the judge .and. worn-by two lengths from Hdwora;' Toinmy-Atkius was a 'neck 'away third; with Ru3t a 'similar distance -back and -Treasure Hunt fifth. ' • " ; One for Inflation Four lined up for the Whenuakura Handicap, and Knollmcro was £5 better backed than Midinetto, with h drop of £lO to Inflation, who was thus at a good price. Midinetto took the lead and was followed into the back stretch by Knollmere, with Inflation handy on the rails, _and_ Ganpat last. This order was maintained to the straight, where Inflation ranged up alongside Midinctet and came on to win by a length and a-lialf. Knollmere was a length away/ Waitaunaha’s Hunt Clup • , ' ■ sit (Hands was ' preferred to Wai : taunaha in the Egmont-Wanganui Hunt Cup, and the pair paid' the dividends, though in the reverse order. . When they reached the brush double in front of the stands Caro assumed the lead, being followed by Sir Glamis, Wnitaunaha and Arikitca, but the loader came to griof at the brush fence by the five-furlong post,- This left Sir Glamis to pilot Waitaunaha past the stands the’ socond' time, - with - Invictus and Arikitca' following- after a. gap. o twenty lengths. Waitaunaha was taken up to Sir Glamis four furlongs from home and out-jumped. him..-at- tic brush crossing .the top, where Invictus ■jumped' the rail into number one training track. The final fence presented no° obstacle, a couple of sections of the batten hurdles being knocked fiat, nnd Waitaunaha ran homo an easy winner by two lengths from Sir Glamis, who was fifteen lengths ahead ol Arikitca. Ythan Springs Surprise The littlc-faucied Ythau sprang a surprise in the Waihau Handicap, iu which he narrowly beat tlio straightout favourite, Midian, with the place, favourite, Wasteland, in third place. Wasteland and Ythan were first to move, but Ythan took the lead as they ran for the back stretch, with Auctioneer ranging up alongside him at -tho five furlongs. Here Midian and Wasteland wero together, .neat, and then came Arises after a gap... Thus, they Tan to the home turn, Midian and Wasteland putting in . their claims as they straightened up, and Aristis also making a short-lived effort.- Ythan hung on. to win by a head from Midiau,°who was a bare neck away. -A couple of lengths further back was Auctioneer, ahead of Arisus, who bled badly. Count Palatine Scores The hot .favourite in the Ladies’ Bracelet, Black Man, failed to finish in a place, the winner being Count Palatine, who was second in request. Coupt Lendroff, Black Man and Count Palatine were the early leaders, but Count Palatine took up the running along the back stretch, where Black Man, Count Lendroff and Burnwood were his nearest attendants,. Burnwood ran up to Count Palatine half a mile from home and the pair showed the way into tho stretch, with Black Man. at the head of the others and .Hauwai making a forward move. In an interesting - finish Count Palatine won - by - half a length from.' Hauwai, who beet Burnwood by a neck for second place; Right up with them were Black Man and Silver Band; : ' ‘ Spiral Wins the Last There was little separating Spiral and Gipsy Love in the betting on the concluding event, the Waverley Hack Handicap, and the former won nicely. After some delay at the barrier they got away to a satisfactory 3tart, save

[that. Haw ora got badly left, and Gipjsy Love- showed out from Spiral and Icier, There was little, change down fhe bapk, biit~ Spiral' held" command on •tho.» tdm/and"-fia-frora, who had been malting mVficc&ay/iWiia*attempting to get; through 1 ' on the :‘rails. Spiral . held histowu;in;,tho,.ruii-.liomoi:to win by 'a length' and -a-half from .Hawora, with Gipsy;; Love. two' lengths, back. Ifoscric w<w fourth.
