Feilding A. and P. Association

MEETING OF GENERAL COMMITTEE There was a good attendance of members at Friday’s meeting of the general committee of tho Feilding A. and P. Association, when Mr ,D. W. Reid (president) presided. Romney Sheep Championship Notification was received from the conference of North Island A. and P. Associations that the association had been allocated the championship medals for Romney ram and ewe, and also for Large Black pigs.—lt was resolved to accept the Romney ewe and ram championships, but to advise the conference that the association had deleted the Large Black pig section from its schedule, and therefore was unable to avail itself of tho award. Sheep Schedule Committee The sheep schedule committee reported as follows:—Mr D, W. Reid has kiny promised to provide a suitable trophy as a points prize for the natural condition Southdown section. In order to eucourago new exhibitors, Mr H. A. Stewart is presenting a cup or trophy to bo won outright for tho novice exhibitor gaining the greatest number of points in the purebred Romney and Southdown sections at our 1934 show'; the definition of a novice to be a person who has not won s, first prize in the purebred Romney or Southdown classes at any previous show and the sheep to be exhibited from the competitor’s own registered flock. The following are the judges selected:—Romney rams: 1, E. R. Black, Pakowhai, Gisborne; 2, A. McKay, Masterton. Romnoy ewes and class 151: 1, A. Kirkpatrick, Gisborne; 2, F. It. Seddon, Hamilton. Southdowus, natural condition: I, H. B. Stuckey, Dannevirke; 2, P. D. McLaughlin, Masterton. South - downs, open classes: 1, W. H. Gimblett, junr,, Hastings; 2, W. V. Buiek, Masterton. Fat sheep: I, A. Clark, Feathcrston; 2, T. C. Cornford, Pahiatua. Fat lambs and pets: 1, Jas.. Trotter, Dannevirke; 2, T. C. Cornford, Pahiatun. Any other breed: Judge to be appointed w'hen entries arc received. —Adopted. Pig Schedule Committee Tho pig schedule committee reported as follows: —That all classes for pigs under four months old bo deleted from tho schedule, also the four purebred Large Black classes, as this breed has not taken on by exhibitors at the show. Tho prize money iu purebred sections will remains as for last show, tho 20 per cent, total reduction 'being saved by the deletion of tho aforementioned classes. It is recommended that a new class be added for one sow with crossbred litter sired by a purebred boar, pries £3, £2 and £l. The special bacon pig class has had tho 20 per cent, cut in prize money. Messrs Page and Thurston havo each donated 12s so as to allow the prize money for classes 239 and 240 crossbred porkers to remain at £2 and £l. Tho following judges have been selected: —All purebred sections: 1, N. P. Neilsen, Tiakitahuna; 2, E. A. McDonald, Levin. Crossbred: 1, E. P. Neilsen, Tiakitahuna; 2, L. Lovelock, Palmerston North.—Adopted. New Pig Pavilion ' The following recommendation of tie executive committee was agreed ■to: —That in view of the report of the pig schedulo committee for extra accommodation, it is recommended that the association proceed with tho erection of additional accommodation for pigs and that tho executive committee bo given authority to prepnro plans and specifications for the new work and to call-for tenders. Financial Report Mr L. J. Wild, chairman of the executive committee, in reporting on the finances of the association, said that the bank overdraft at date was £451 7s 7d compared with an overdraft of £1479 8s 4d in August last year. The association said Mr Wild was, apart from the £IOOO received from a recent art union, a little better off. General Business The matter of tho association cooperating with tho district Women’s Institutes for the stagiug of a comprehensive exhibit of tho crafts of the institute was brought up by Mr E. Burrell and referred to the home industries and executive committees for a report. It was decided to ask the Feilding Jockey Club for tho uso of tho totalisatov house at tho racecourse for the staging of the display. The Southdown Sheep Society of Now Zealand wrote offering two gold medals, one for the best two-tooth ram from a registered flock and tho other for tho best two-tooth ram in natural condition.—Received with thanks. From the New Zealand Friesian Association was received a donation of a gold medal as a points prize, providing there were 20 or more ontrics in the Friesian classes. —A vote of thanks was accorded the donors. Tho donation of a quarter of a ton of manure from a refrigerating company as a points prize in the novice dairy section was also received with thanks.
