Getting Ready for a New Year's Angling

ANNUAL MEETING OF PALMERETON NORTH FISHERMEN Mr E. E. Ward was in the chair at tho annual meeting of the Palmerston North Anglers’ Club last evening, when there was an attendance of over 30 devotees to the .fisherman’s sport. Tho annual report submitted by the president said that the fishing for tho season was, on the whole, fairly hard, not owing to any lack of fish in tho but to the excess of natural food; in the waters, which, made artificial fishing difficult.. In spite of-this, good fishing was obtainable towards the end of April. In all, the club conducted 11 competitions, in which the total number of fish woighed was 158. The total weight of fish caught was 250 lb, making tho average weight por fish lib 9 l-3oz. The club’s activities were brought to a close by the annual dinner in July, which was a distinct success. The club’s thanks for donations of trophies were duo to Messrs McCarthy's, Collinson and Son, Ltd., Tingey’s, Ltd., H. G. Long-Ward, E. Ward, and Lewis Berger and Sons, and to Mr C. Page for generous assistance to tho club. Mr R. W. Priest and Mr R. H. Billens were also thanked for courtesies extended, as was Mr P. S. Larcomb for his services as hon. auditor. —The report was adopted, and it was decided to write in appreciation of Mr Laroomb’s services. Mr N. Hansen wrote offering his services as a member of the committee. Tho balance-sheet was formally adopted on tho motion of Mr P. A. Elsinore. The chairman commented that it would not bo long before tho fishing season was here again, and comprehensive arrangements were being mado for the seasonal competitions among club members. A motion proposed by Mr Seward was that all fish weighed in for the competitions should be taken from waters in the district. The sponsor of the motion said this would give equal opportunities to all sportsmen, and would not handicap thoso who did not possess a car. The motion was seconded, but it was the opinion of the meeting that restriction to the Manawatu district would bo too much of a ban, and the whole Wellington Acclimatisation Society’s district should be fishable. Mr Elsmoro moved as an amendment that the fishing bo left as it was, for if (they were all kept to the home waters the sport would bo poor. Mr Matthews considered that tho Hawke’3 Bay waters should be barred for the purposes of the club competition, and tho Wellington district should be the limit. After considerable discussion, it was decided that for the purpose of the club competition, fish may bo taken from the Wellington Acclimatisation Society’s district only. It was decided that tbero would bo no postponement of. competitions from an appointed date. In the event. of muddy rivers, the competition will proceed as usual. A motion from Messrs "Times and Elsmore that tho competition be for artificial bait only, was lost. The election of officers for the ensuing year was then held, resulting as follows: —Patron, Mr H. G. Bagnall; hon. auditor, Mr P. S. Larcomb; committee, Messrs E. E. Ward, C. Page, E. Hollier, W. H. H.osking, N. Hansen; It. Scott, C. Voss, A. H. Marshall, W. H. Williams, W. P. C. 8011, A. M.
