Ladies' Hockey Elect For N.Z. Tournament
MANAWATU TEAM ANNOUNCED The following is the final selection of the ladies to represent Manawatu at the New Zealand hockey tournament, to be held at Dannovirke on August 23: — M. Clarke (1); G. McKenzie (2), M. Scott (3); W. Robson (4), M. Godfrey (5), M. Watt (6); F. Smith (7), F. HigMeld (S), W. Ranson (9), M. Koarnes (10), S. Doyle (11). Emergencies: R. Davis (12), M. Sexton (13), E. Robson (14), N. Ainsworth (15). Mr G. Ranson has been appointed manager and Mrs Ranson chaperone. Mr C. Dixon is the selector and coach. Players are requested to call on Mr Weston J. Smith, Palmerston North, for tho numbers indicated above. The first game for the Manawatu players will be against Eastern, in tho C section on Wednesday, at 3 p.m. Excellent arrangements have been mado by the management committco of the New Zealand Ladies’Hockey Championship Tournament, which is t.O commence at Dannevirke on Wednesday next. The undertaking of the tourney has necessitated the assistance of the business people as well as tho hockey players, and Dannevirke has arranged for the billeting of 250 players^—a splendid performance for the town. In all, there are IS teams competing, including Eastern (Southland), holders of the ‘‘K’’ cup, and Otago, who hold the Floyd shield. The Holden cup is in joint custody of Canterbury and Marlborough, and these two teams will also be competing. Othor teams include Wanganui, Auckland, Wairarapa, Wellington, Taranaki and Manawatu. Tho tourney bids fair to reflect credit on all concerned.
