The distance was 31 miles and the placings as follow:—J. Gray, lhr. 27mln. 31sec., 1; G. Morgan, lhr. 27min. 32sec., 2; J. Preston, lhr. 12 min. lOsec., 3. A close finish resulted, only nine seconds separating first and last men. B. Wilkinson was fourth. As will be seen from the above, Preston covered the distance in the fastest time. Representative Rugby. There was a fair attendance, including a number of visitors, at Easton park on Wednesday afternoon, when in perfect weather the return representative match between Foxton and Te Kawau was played. The teams lined out as follow: Foxton: D. Chrystall, Iv. Robinson, J. Everleigh, J. Poto, G. Hirini (captain), K. Matthews, E. Coley, A. Alexander, K. Sinclair, T. Devonshire, C. Castles, W. Tuck, S. Bills, J. Death, G. Wright. Te Kawau: Nicholls, Donaldson (2), Sexton, Gilmore (captain), Rauhihi, W. Cole, Hines, J. Cole, Oliver, Knox, Waller, Teri, Murphy, Jelleband. Te Kawau won the toss and played with the sun at their backs. For the first quarterof an hour play became very slow. Both sides endeavoured to open up play but faulty handling mulled each movement. It was not long, however, before the local winger, J. Poto, brought off one of the highlights of the game. From a scramble in midfield Coley transferred to Matthews, to Hirini, to Everleigh, for Poto to secure near the 25. He cleverly eluded several tacklers to score a brilliant try in a handy position for Hirini to improve.—Foxton 5, Te Kawau 0. Spurred on by this reverse, Te Kawau retaliated, and led by Gilmore they invaded the locals 'line, but Chrystall, who was the locals’ custodian, proved very safe. Success, however, soon camo Te Kawau’s way. Pressing strongly, Nicholls cross-kicked to the front of the posts and Simon, who appeared to be offside, dribbled over and touched down by the posts, the referee ruling a try. Gilmore added the major points.—Te Kawau 5, Foxton 5. The rest of the spell saw no further score. Foxton were having the better of the exchanges, several onslaughts breaking down through overeagerness and mishandling. The changeover saw J. Wilson replace Death in the local pack. Play at times became very willing. A scramble at half way saw Sinclair break through and, with Castles in attendance, a golden opportunity was lost when he delayed his transfer. The play swung across field but the defence held. Poto made a bold bid down the side line but was pushed out near the 25. Te Kawau returned and carrying the attack to Foxton territory Gilmore attempted a field goal but missed by the narrowest of margins. Not to be denied, Foxton retaliated and a misfield by the visitors saw Bills and Castles carry to the line but Nicholls forced in time. Foxton continued to press and for rabbiting, Nicholls was penalised but Hirini failed. At this stage Thompson, for the visitors, replaced W. Cole, who retired injured. He replaced Donaldson on the wing, who went in to the half back position. From half way Te Kawau secured. Gilmore broke clean through but was well grassed by Chrystall. Te Kawau pressed, compelling Foxton to force. A nice liner by Gilmore put the visitors in a handy position but Foxton returned to half way. Poto, the india-rubber man, caused amusement to the spectators in one of his solo dashes down the side line. Gilmore had another unsuccessful shot at goal A misfield by Hirini and Robinson let Te Kawau through but a forward pass spoilt a certain try. Full time sounded shortly after with the scores unaltered.—Foxton 5, Te Kawau 5. Mr. W. Neville controlled the game.
