Larwood in Action at the Regent

Many cricket enthusiasts are wondering what effect the M.C.C.’s attitude in regard to what has been described by Australian papers as “body-line bowling” is going to have on the game. The fairness of Jardine’s tactics in placing a packed leg field to fast, short-pitched bowling in the recent tests, has been questioned in Australia and other parts of the Empire and there aro many qualified judges who hold tho opinion that the “body-line” attack is not going to do the game any good. Cricketers and followers of the game would do well to see the featurette at present screening at the Regent. In a series of pictures, taking during the recent, test matches, the “body-line” attack is seen in actual operation. Larwood, who sends the ball down at 90 miles an hour, is shown in violent action and in slow motion against Bradman, McCabe, Woodfull and Oldfield and the series also shows Woodfull getting a smack over the heart and Oldfield the one which fractured his skull. Arthur Mailey introduces the picture and explains what is going on, but ho makes no attempt to justify or criticise the “body-line” tactics.
