The Tivoli
“BIRD OF PARADISE” “Bird of Paradise,’’ now showing at. tho Tivoli Theatre, is perhaps one of tho best known plays ever produced. The pathetic romance of Luana, a child of nature, who falls hopelessly in love with a white man, and as hopelessly sacrifices her love, required, a setting in sympathy with the sublime character of her heroism. If there had been any doubt as to tho wisdom of this expensive expedition, they were quickly dispelled. Tho natural beauties of Hawaii, with its waving palms, its placid, moonlight night, its verdant, lush valleys, its beautiful seascape and rugged coastline, wero a delight to Vidor’s eyes. There he set up his cameras under the direction of Clyde De Vinna, who photographed “Trader Horn.” In production “Bird of Paradise” is tremendous in scope. No money was spared to mako it a realistic saga of romance. In this respect it is interesting to note that the company hired an entiro village of Ha waiian primitives —all its occupants, men, women, babies, goats and dogs—• for tho spectacular mating dance scene. The screening for to-morrow and Thursday will be “Harmony Row,” starring George Wallace. A matinee will be held on Wednesday, afternoon.
