Hockey in Feilding
FORM IN TRIAL GAMES The standard of play in the trial games staged by the Feilding Hockey Association on Saturday was such as to reflect every credit on the selectors, for they were successful in bringing together very evenly-matched combinations. To select personnel for the final elevens will not be an easy task, and enthusiasts will await with interest the verdict. The score in the ladies’ game, A v. B, 3 to 1 in favour of the former, was no indication of tho merits of the teams. For the winners I. Scott, B. Dewe, F. Reid, E. Hill and B. Bridge showed excellent form, while F. McIntosh and W. Dewe gave of their best for tho defeated side. M. Salt disclosed improved form, and in fact all players showed what they really could do under test. The men’s game, A v. B, was played under different circumstances, rain coming on during . the play, but this match, like the ladies’, showed what can bo done with a small stick and a ball. Again the selectors had pitted two evenly-matched combinations against one another, tho result being A 1 goal, B 0. It was not a difficult job for the referees to carry out their work iu an efficient manner, as bleaches were made very seldom. "Whiteman in goal was very safe. Nuku Williams, who took Knight’s placo in the second half, was particularly good. M. Worsfold played his usual heady game. R. Florence and F. Williams were excellent. W. Reid, when changed from back to half, considerably strengthened his side. Like the ladies, all were •worthy of their places in the team.
May Tourney Final Previous to tho trial games the final in the May tournament 7-a-side for ladies, which could not bo played owing to bad light, was played between Carnarvon and Hinekoa. Tho former won by 1 goal to nil after a splendid game, which was expected of these teams.
