17,000 Cases of Island Oranges

MANY OPEN UP IN POOR CONDITION Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Last Night. Now is the height of the Island orange season and the Maunganui which arrived in Wellington to-day from San Erancisco via Papeete and Rarotonga, brought about 17,000 cases of fruit, chiefly oranges, from Rarotonga. A largo number of the oranges were landed in a very pulpy condition and will be destroyed. A big percentage of the oranges are understood to have been packed upwards of ten days boforo they were loaded and this is tho main reason for the deterioration. Additional factors are tho wet weather recently in the Cook Islands and the fact that many of the plantations and trees aro getting old and have not . been pruned properly.
