Olive Oil as a Polish and Preservative

Apart from its immense value for medicinal, culinary, and beauty purposes, there seems to bo literally no end to the uses of clivo oil, even as a cleaning and preserving agent. Here are a few: —

To prevent rust on a spring mattress, remove all dust with a small, soft brush, then wipe each spring with a cloth dipped in olive oiJ.

Silver articles which are only used occasionally will not tarnish in the cupboard if polished thoroughly, smeared over with olive oil and wrapped in grease-proof paper. Bcforo putting away patent-leather shoes that aro not worn regularly rub them well with with olive oil. This will preserve the leather.

Bust can be removed from iron ousted by vigorously rubbing with fine coal-ash moistened with olive oil.

After cleaning metal fittings in the bathroom, smear them over with a little olive oil. This will protect them from the steam and they will not require cleaning so often.

To preserve linoleum, rub over with a mixture of equal parts of olive oil and vinegaT, then polish. Wash and dry largo saucepan lids that are not used often, then wipe ovcl- with olive oil.

Kerbs, companion sets, and other lacquered articles should be smeared over with a little olive oil once a week. This preserves the lacquer. When washing leathers used ' for household purposes, add a little olive oil to tho rinsing water, also nib them between the hands at intervals during the drying process. This will prevent the leather from hardening. A little olive oil massaged into the hands frequently during the extra work that spring cleaning demands, will keep them soft and white.
