Waituna West

Prom Our Own Correspondent. The Tapuac concert on Wednesday night in the Waituna hall in aid of school funds was well patronised. The night was all that could be desired this, no doubt, accounting for the large attendance. The stage was tastefully decorated with bamboo and gum foliage and chrysanthemums. A very good programme was staged. The concert was opened by a piano solo by Miss Armour; monologue, “Johnny Wants a Gun,’’ Mcrvyn Uld, and for an encore, “Who Killed Cock Robin?’’; dialogue, “Dolls’ Doctor,’’ Barbara Shannon and Brian Meads; recitation, “Careful Little Man,’’ Charlie Richardson; “A Hunting,’’ John Shannon; character song, “Old John Braddleum,’’ Arnold Meads, John and Ron Shannon; recitation, Ray Pussei; a Minuet and Gavotte, Tapuae school; recitation, Des. Richardson. Other items were rendered as follow: Miss Tankersley, two solos; Mr. Dewe, two musical monologues; Mr. Shelton, two solos; Miss Liddell, two solos; Miss Armour, two monologues; Miss Dewe, two solos; Mr. Nash, two violin solos; Miss Liddell and Miss Tankersley, duet. Mr. Alvan Shannon, chairman of the Tapuac School Committee, thanked everyone who had helped to make the concert the success it was. Special thanks were given to the entertainers from Fencing and Palmerston North. After the singing of the National Anthem the hall was cleared and supper was provided by the Tapuae ladies. After supper, dancing was carried on till the early hours of the morning. On Saturday afternoon the Waituna West football team played a friendly match with the Stanway Football Club’s team. The game ended in a win for Waituna West, the score wemg 6 —o. R. Smith scored two tries which Waituna failed to convert. After the game dinner was provided by the Waituna team, the Waituna ladies doing the catering. On Saturday evening a 500 card party was held, there being a fair attendance. The ladies’ first prize was -won by. o,' Deic££t,er, Mb. BfflgfifiJU.

Palmer, Mr. P. H. Halford, senr., and Mr. Pollard, of Rewa, tied for the men’s first prize, the play off being won by Mr. Russell Palmer. Consolation prizes were won by Mrs. McKay | and Mr. M.
