USUAL MEETING HELD Mr. W. H. Wilson presided at a meeting of tho Manawatu Hockey Association on Friday night. Also present were Messrs R. L. 0. Aitchison, H. Byers, A. E. Blackbourn, D. Wilton, F. McLachlan, C. S. Lawson, T. E. Inkpen and W. J. Fitzgerald (hon. secretary). An apology for absence was received from Mr. H. Robinson. Applications from N. Hansen membership with Broadway, E. Ellis with Thoenix, J. Hanley with Palmorston North B aud R. Merritt and Attln< borough with Massey College were agreed to. Tho Manawatu Hockey Referees’ Association wroto requesting that players be advised of tho following motion passed at a recent meeting of that body: "That when teams go on tho field the referees inform them that there will be no talking and no disputing tho refcrco’s decision. The referees, however, will bo pleased to answer any questions in reference to decisions mado, cither at half time or at tho conclusion of tho game."—lt was agreed to forward writton notification to all clubs.
Tho grounds committee reported that owing to the unsatisfactory nature of tho Milverton park area it had been decided to transfer the venue of play ontircly to Park ro&d, and the use of an additional pitch had been agreed to by the Rugby Council. —This action was confirmed by the meeting. Reporting on a meeting of players held this month to discuss a scheme for the insurance of players, the chairman stated that tho meeting had given tho matter full consideration and it was finally decided that tho M.H.A. conduct its own insurance scheme. Mr. Wilson expressed gratification that the players had finally committed themselvcr to a co-operative schemo of insurance.
This was heartily endorsed by Mr. Aitchison, who said that the step was a forward one and represented a culmination of what they had been trying to establish for many years past. The matter of players using nonregistered colours was raised by Mr. McLachlan, and after some discussion it was decidod that clubs be advised that in view of tho fact that sufficient warning had already been issued, the proper penalty would bo enforced in future. This was proposed by Mr, Wilson and seconded by Mr. Aitchison. Mr. Aitchison was congratulated on passing tho examination of the New Zealand Referees’ Association.—Acknowledging the compliment paid him, Mr. Aitchison said tho badge itself was of little valuo, but it signified tho value of the attempt of the New Zealand Association to secure a uniform interpretation of its rules throughout New Zealand. It was to be hoped that the time would come when every referee in the Manawatu would hold his A badge. Even 30 the quality of refereeing was already exceptionally high in this centre, and the work of a Palmerston North roferce taking control of a game in anothor locality was always favourably commented upon. The standard was one that compared favourably with that of other centres.
