Ashhurst
From Our Own Correspondent. A most enjoyable evening was spent on Wednesday last, in St Mary Magdalene's Church-room, when somo twenty-iivo members of All Saints Girls’ Club, including the Misses Harwood and Hume, and accompanied by Mrs Woodward, g<ivo gu entertainment in aid of the funds of the Young Women's Biblo Class, newly-formed under the auspices of the Anglican Church. Miss Harwood, upon whom fell the tusk of arranging and. organizing t’lo entertainment—and Miss Hume, deserve warm congratulation for the excellent programme submitted, as do also tho performers. The opening number, a chorus by a Nigger minstrel troup, appropriately costumed, provoked a storm of applause, and was loudly encored —as indeed were all the items. Recitation by Misses Varcoe and Burrell and a song by Miss Norman, wero greatly appreciated, and so was the step-dancing of tho Misses Edwards. Miss Hume was warmly appreciated in a pianoforte solo, and later led tho community singing .which was one of the most enjoyable items in tho programme. A novel and telling item was a dualoguo by the Misses R. Rising and M. Pulslouslii entitled "Mrs Fattymore and Mrs Skinnyless.” The entertainment concluded with a onc-aet play entitled “The Bride”—very amusing 1 and excellently acted. Miss M. Rich- ! ards made a piquant and alluring “bride,” avd tho acting of Miss Palmer and Miss K. Richards, mother and sister of tho bride respectively, Miss C. Barrel (maid), Miss Christian ("Miss Sparrow 7 ’’) and Miss Rising (Parisian Modiste), left nothing to be desired. At the conclusion of the entertainment tho visitors wero heartily thanked, and supper was provided by the members of the Eiblp Class and their president.
