KUMEEOA—HOPELANDS. The monthly meeting of the KumeroaHopolands W.I. was held on Tuesday, there being a largo number of members present. Mrs B. H. Norman presided. (Six members rendered (lie Institute song under the leadership of Mrs T. Kemp, and were heartily applauded. The "do’s and don t.’s’’ of the W.I. wero discussed. The competitions, "best article made from a sugar bag," and “plate of biscuits," brought forward a large number of entries, Mrs D’Ath kindly acting as judge. Miss Nola Arrow was first with a beautiful cushion dyed brown and worked in pretty colours, and Mrs Hutchins was second with a pair of boy’s trousers, also dyed and lined so that ono could hardly recognise the humble sugar bag. In the biscuit competition Mrs Ncwbrook secured first prize and Miss Lynch sccj -end,'- Visitors from Woodvillo were present and Mrs Nixon gave a most helpful and interesting address on first aid and demonstrated bandaging, lhe hostesses were Mcsdamcs Ncwbrook, Martini and Miller. SHANNON. i , ~ u was a very large attendance oi members at the monthly meeting of the Shannon ‘Women’s Institute held on Wednesday last, tho president, Mrs. Barber, occupying the chair. Ike first part of the meeting was devoted to receiving correspondence and discussing business matters. The resignation of two members, the Misses Baxter, was received with regret. Two new members, Mrs. M. Hocking and Mrs. Shaw, were welcomed to the institute. Aitei some discussion it was decided to hold a husband’s evening on July 3, the entertainment to take the form of progressive five hundred. The competition for the day was "Something New From Something Old," the successful competitors being Mrs. Nicol 1, Mrs. Ttemewan 2, Mrs. N. Sathcrlcy 3. July’s competition will lie for a plate of six cgglc.ss biscuits. Grc&t interest shown in o, display ot cushion covers, made from sugar sacks and worked in gay colours. These covers had been made by members from all Institutes in the Manawatu group and some very clever and artistic work was on view. A very cnjoyuble oiternoon tea was pro* vided and. served by tho hostesses, Mcsdames Pettit, Pallant, Wilson and Coley. An extremely interesting and 'instructive lecture on "Nyassaland, delivered by the Reverend Fothcringham, was enjoyed by all. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded the lecturer by all present and the afternoon was brought to a close with the singing of the National Anthem.
