Veteran Wins British Golf Title

Tho British amateur golf final was followed by a large crowd. Tlic veteran, Hon. Michael Scott (who is over 60) took an early lead in tbo first round, winning .the first and third, and he turned 3 up with 3S to 42. Ho increased this to 5 in tho second nine holes, chiefly owing to Bourn’s indifferent putting. The scores in the first round wero Scott 76 and Bourn 82.

In the second round Scott was seemingly tired and lost the first two, but a fino four at the third when he laid his approach putt dead, suggested a Testoratiou of confidence. Bourn won the fourth and tlic next two wero exchanges. B'ourn at .the seventh failed with an 8-feet putt and Scott, escaping with a half, was still 3 up. He won the eighth, although bunkered,: and a perfect half at the ninth left .the veteran 4 up with 9 to play. Again at tho tenth Bourn's'putting failed, and only a magnificent chip saved him at the eleventh, where Scott’s long putt for two hung on the lip of tho hole. Scott was bunkered at tho twelfth. Bourn was then four down with six to play. The thirteenth and fourteenth were halved, when Scott was four up with four to play. The fifteenth, where the match ended, was halved in six, Scott being bunkered and Bourn slicing into tho rough and dropping tho next shot. Tho scores were: Scott 67, Bourn 65.

Hattersley won tho amateur golf championship of New South Wales, defeating tho 17-year-old Alan Waterson, three up and one to play in tho final at tho Kensington links to-day. Hattersley established a good lead of 5 up in tho morning round, and although Waterson caino with a lato run at tho finish he was unable to ovortako tho deficit. Hattersley was always very steady and accurate with perfect iron shots. Waterson probably through nervousness was inclined to slice, but play generally was not up to the usual standard.
