Euchre Party and Dance A euchre party and dance was held on Saturday night, June .10, under the auspices of tlie Hukanui Hockey Club. Despite tho cold weather which prevailed all day and during the evening, there was quite a considerable attendance. Music for dancing was supplied by Misses A. R. Eddie, R. Parker and Airs It. H. Parker. The ladies’ prize was won by Airs It. H. Parker and Airs Reg Cooper was successful in the cutoff for the metis’ prize. A very dainty supper was served during the evening by the hockey girls. The duties of AI.C. were very capably carried out by Ah- AV. Coster. Air A. F. Lawrence kindly lent his wireless set for the occasion. A similar function is to be held in a fortnight’s time. Women’s Institute The June meeting of the Hukanui Women’s Institute was presided over by Airs E. Harrington, but owing to very wintry weather conditions the attendance suffered. Tho knitted beret competition was won by Airs N. Goodin, Mrs Alooncy being second. The competition for July is tho best article made from a flour bag, A recitation by Aliss J. Colder was very well received. A very dainty afternoon tea was dispensed and the singing of the National Anthem brought a jolly afternoon to a close. Hockey at Hukanui A good number of spectators attended the hockey match on Wednesday last between the local girls and Woodvillc. The day was fine but-cold, them being no sun and no wind. AA oodvillc were unfortunate in having perhaps their best back absent. This weakened them considerably, and the local team had no difficulty in defeating them by 10 goals to 1. The forward line combined nicely on several occasions, and the inner?, by hard and accurate shooting, found tho net repeatedly. Air L. Kitchen was an efficient referee.

Arost of the farmers of the districtthis season have had to plough in their swede crops owing to the fly and tho moth’s severe attacks. Personal Air Eric Aitchison, of Hukanui, recently entered the Pahiatua Public Hospital to undergo an operation, and his many friends wish him a speedy recovery. The many friends of Air and Mrs R. Alabey will regret to hear that their daughter, Beryl, has had to enter the hospital for treatment to her arm.
