On the appointed day, f! 5 !? 10 .taring 'panoply set forth from the paiacc. As it reached tho gates of the town it mat an old peasant riding astride a donkey. The peasant said: ■ “Turn back, 0 sire. It, is,going to rain cats and dogs. - - • “Nothing of the sort,” said-'The king. “The court weather man-said it was going to be fair;” Wo they proceeded. And in an hour’s time it rained cats and dogs, and the drenched cavalcade returned to the palace in foul humour. The king sUmImoned the court weather man and had Ihira executed on the spot. - . Then he -summoned, tho old peasant, 'and said that they would have him for weather niaA.- ... ,L' h, A “ But toll me, he -added, “ how uiil 'you kngw i'tVa’s going “As S,' matter--of-fact, sire,” tho peasant replied, “an hour before-ii is going to rain my-donkey ’s’cars always ! go]imp.” - ' - I “We doin’t want you we want your ;donkey,” quoth the king.
