KITCHEN TEA TOR A BRIDE-TO-BE. Miss Mavis Draper, who is to be married on Tuesday, was recently the guest of honour at a most enjoyable kitchen tea given by a number of ladies of the district. The party was held in the ball, competitions, games, dancing and community singing providing varied entertainment. Miss Grace Pettit proved the winner of a competition, a novelty item being won by Miss J. Draper. Old Scottish songs by Mrs. Finlayson and pianoforte solos by Miss J. Tappiu gave a great deal of pleasure. Mrs. 11. Brooker, who, on behalf of the gathering, was called upon to ask Miss Draper’s acceptance of the parcels brought along by licr friends, said they could not allow tho bridc-clcct to depaii. from the district "without showing appreciation of her in some tangible manner. It was therefore decided to give her the present party for the purpose of stocking tho kitchen of her future home. The speaker remarked that although Miss Draper had spent her early childhood at Pahautanui and Plinnnerton, her later life was lived at Cheltenham, where she was a tower of strength and always to the l'orc in helping with the social life of tho district. Mrs. Brooker then asked .Miss Draper to accept her gifts and with, them the very best of good wishes from her friends. Miss Draper, who was assisted in opening the parcels by Miss Munro, expressed her appreciation of their contents in a pleasing little speech that was followed by musical honours.
