High School as Camp Site

BOARD REFUSES APPLICATION On the minute book of the Palmerston North High School Board of Governors is a resolution which states that the board will not consider auy application for the uso of any of the cunnings under its control, for purposes other than .those connected with the school. This resolution was resurrected last evening when the board received au application front the Methodist Bible Glass Union for the uso of the Girls' High School during Easter, PJ3f, for the purpose of a camp. Mr. T. E. liodder voiced a solo piotest against the minute and gave notice of motion that it be rescinded at the next meeting of the board. Ho said tho objective of the applicants was character building aud the board, as ».u educational body, should not stand in the ivay. All applications should bo considered on their merits. “AVe are getting an unenviable name in this connection,” he said. “Other schools —Timaru, Oamaru, Feilding —welcome these camps. They bring honourable people to tho town and no doubt they speud money. AYc should reconsider tho matter.”

The principal of the Girls’ High School (Mrs. M. Rhodes) said she had received two additional applications for the use of the school for similar purposes. One was from the Anglican Sunday Schools and the other ,1 roin a dramatic club or association. Personally she would opposo the school being so used.

The board decided to adhere to its previous decision and the application from the Methodist Bible Class Union was declined.
