GOVERNOR-GENERAL’S TRIBUTE TO DOMINION’S PRESS Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, June 23. Complimentary reference to the high standard maintained by the Press of New Zealand was made by tho Gov-ernor-General at the opening of the Overseas League’s new clubrooms. His Excellency said ho learned from the late Lord Northeliffc that the Press was a bcnoficient organ of public opinion. “It gives me tho opportunity of saying,” he added, ‘‘that you arc very fortunato in this Dominion in having almost without exception a Press of outstanding integrity, honesty and literary capacity with which I doubt 'whether the Press of any part of the world can bear comparison. ‘‘Almost every distinguished visitor who comes to theso shores comments upon the very high standard that the Press of this country maintains. May I venture to hope that you will do all in your power to encourage the maintenance of that standard, bearing in mind the immense power that the Press wields in moulding public opinion?”
