RACING AT HASTINGS PROSPECTS EOR TO-DAY The Hawke’s Bay Jockey Club’s , winter meeting will be concluded today and the following horses should command respect in their engagements: — Nursery Handicap: Foreign Queen, Margaret Rose, Ealpliyllis. H.B. Hurdles: High Falutin’, Miss Hastings. Havelock Handicap: Lalla QuexRoyal Dash bracket, Slippery. H.B. Steeplechase: Luna Lux, Red Bank. Ruakawa Handicap: Princess Bell, Gold Ruler, Bonnie Vale. Woodlands Handicap: Royal Dash, Lady Ronald. Final Handicap: Navaho, Huntingdon. HUNT CLUB RACES Weights for the Manawatu Hunt Club’s race meeting, to be held at Awapuni on June 2S, are due to make their appearance on Monday next. R. REED PILOTS WINNER R. Reed left for Australia recently, and was not long in getting on the winning list, for ho rode Diamond dc Rouge to victory at Randwick on June T), BIKKBECK BREAKS DOWN The Awapuni-trained ’chaser Birkheck was going well in the June Steeples at Hastings on Thursday, but , when ho ran up to the leader, Red Bank, at the sod wall, three fences from home, he broke down and was pulled up. In the same event the Bunnythorpo horse Adventus lost his rider after negotiating the first fence, and went on on his own to crash into the fence on tho outside of tho course, bringing down an electric light pole. MANAWATU HUNT A splendid field of followers attended the Hunt at Manakau on Wednesday afternoon, and thoroughly enjoyable sport ensued. The paddocks were in splendid ordor and there was some fine jumping seen by a goodly number of spectators. The drags were laid by Miss Piper on Motuiti and Mr W. Piper on Boxer. The hounds ran fast and true over the different courses, and the hunt proved a thorough success. At the conclusion all present were entertained at afternoon tea at the residence of Mr T. O’Rourke.
