Forty Million Dollars Damage
DEATH ROLL NOW 119. CALIFORNIAN EARTHQUAKE United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright LOS ANGELES, March 13. .... A fairly strong earthquake occurred at 5.18 a.m. to-day. There was no damage. The death toll is now 119 and the damage is estimated at forty million dollars. A thousand injured persons are in hospital and probably four thousand received emergency treatment.

On his learning of the disaster tho following telegram was addressed by tho King to President Roosevelt: "I am deeply concerned with tho heavy loss of life which has boon occasioned by the disastrous earthquake in California, and would ask you, Mr. President, to accept this expression of my sincere sympathy with all those who have sustained bereavement or injury as a result of this calamity.”
