Australia Agrees to Butter Restriction
EXPORT LEVY TO PAY FOR AMOUNT HELD BACK
United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright Received Tuesday, 9.15 p.m. CANBERRA, Mar. 14. The Dairy Export Control Board has reluctantly agreed to a 6 per cent, restriction in Australian butter exports and has urged tho Federal Cabinet to formulate a plan to finance the loss this occasions. It is understood Cabinet has agreed to enact legislation imposing a levy up to a farthing per pound on all butter exported, the proceeds of which are to be distributed so as to ensure the payment on current market prices for tho total amount held back from export. The restriction of 6 per cent, is to continue for one year. Foreign Exports to be Restricted TWICE THE REDUCTION MADE BY DOMINIONS. LONDON, March 13. Pending Australia and New Zealand’s final decision, the butter restriction position is unchanged. It i 3 clear, however, that Britain will now accept the principle of asking foreign suppliers, principally Denmark, to reduco their exports by twice as much as the Dominions, tho ratio being preserved irrespective of what percentage on the 1932 exports the Dominions agree to restrict their exports by.
Denmark’s Bargain SHE BUYS MORE BRITISH PRODUCTS Received Tuesday, 10.30 p.m. COPENHAGEN, March 14. Tho Finance Minister states that tho London negotiations have enabled Denmark to maintain her quota of bacon exports to Britain and avoid an increased tariff on butter if she buys an adequate amount of other products from Britain. Danish firms will cooperate in this connection if tho prices are suitable.
