“ Blue Danube ” Is To Screen Here Shortly

An outstanding production of the British and Dominions Film Corporation, “Tho Blue Danube,” will commence screening at the Regent Theatre on Wednesday next. It is reminiscent of the famous pre-war operettas of Viennese life—a life which will never bo forgotten and which, will over stand for all that is beautiful in music, gaiety and art. The film is brimful of the most entrancing melodies that are of the typo that lingers in one’s memory long after one lias left the theatre. The lilting waltzes of the Austrian capital, known to the world as the gayest city of tho globe, are to be heard throughout the show', and other tunes, no less beautiful, are heard from time to time. Of course, the show is not lacking in beautiful women. Who could visualise the Danube and its surroundings without associating it with tho beautiful women of story and of song 1 And then there aro the officers of the army, with their resplendent uniforms, their charming manners, and their fame for making love to tho beautiful women, All are to be seen in “The Blue Danube,” the story of which is as delightful as it is entertaining. The cast is of international importance. Heaued by Joseph Schildkraut, an Anglo-Aus-trian actor, of “Show .Boat fame,” and Dorothy Bouchier, B.D.F.’s new “find,” other artists include Brigitte Holm, the German actress who gave an unforgettable portrayal as the robot woman in a recent Continental film; Desmond Jeans, actor-boxer known to Australian theatre-goers as Desmond McMinn; Nitikina, noted Russian dancer; Lillian Hall Davies, English musical comedy star; and Maurice Bradcll. Herbert Wilcox directed the film from a story by Miss Doris Zinkeisen, associate producer to Charles B. Cockrane, theatrical impressario. The general settings and the mounting of “Tho Blue Danube” set a new standard for British productions. Altogether the film is one that combines all the essentials of perfect entertainment.
