Durante and Claudette Colbert Are Coming

George M. Cohan, Jimmy Durante and Claudette Colbert are a delightful trio in "Tho Phantom President,” the new picture for the Palace on March 29. Sydney W. Carroll, film critic of the London Sunday Times, says: " ‘The Phantom President’ is one more remarkable instance of the remarkable zest Americans show in ridiculing and burlesquing themselves and their most cherished institutions. This particular film proves enjoyable, not only because of its rich sense of satire and caricature, but by reason of the first appearance in the talkies of a first-class American aetor-author-produccr, George M. Cohan. No other player in the United States has written, staged, and acted in more pieces than he. Here he enacts a dual identity tolo. He differentiates with cleverness between a dull, colourless, affected and conceited presidential candidate and a showman in tho medicine business, unrelated to him but his living and identical counterpart. The campaign managers discover the double and use him to impersonate the candidate. Real trouble begins when both men fall in love with the same girl. This is easy to follow because the darling little creature is represented by Claudette Colbert, one of tho most fascinating of film stars.”
