Foxton Talkies

An all-star cast is presented in 'The Big Shot,’ at the Poston Talkies tonight. Leading the list, of course, is the youthful Quillan, who, although in his early twenties, has been a star in his own right for years. Coming to the screen from vaudeville, ho was featured in a series of comedies for Mack Sennett. He then tried featurelength productions, going first to Cecil B. De Mille and thence to Pathe. During the past two years he has appeared in such successes as ‘Tho Sophomore,’ ‘Night Work, ‘Big Money,’ ‘Sweepstakes,’ ‘The Tip Off,’ and others. Playing the role of a goodhearted woman of tho underworld in the production is beautiful Mary Nolan. For years the toast of Broadway as one of Ziegfeld’s glorified girls, she became a star in motion pictures through tho great Gorman organisation, Ufa. Returning to the United States, she played in “Sorrel and Son,’’ and signed a Universal contract. Bello Bennett, long a favourite on the stage, and never to be forgotten for her characterisation of “Stella Dallas,’’ deserted the screen nearly one year ago to fulfil vaudoville contracts. However, when offered this role of a small-town mother *he brought her tour to an end and hastened to Hollywood to play the part. Rosco Ates, noted stammering comedian of tho vaudeville, and who gave an outstanding performance as the printer in ‘Cimarron,’ has the principal role —that of a barber.
