Sister Galliardi, of the staff of the local public hospital, is joining the staff of the Lewisham Hospital, Wellington. Miss Violet Bason has again joined the staff after an absence of four years. At the last meeting of the County Council tho treasurer reported that it is estimated that the financial year should end with an approximate credit balance of £SOO. A motion that a committee should go into the question of the purchase of a new car for the ovorseer was lost on a division. Mrs. H. Paterson will be a delegate representing Pallia tua and other branches of the W.C.T.U. at the Dominion convention, which is to be held in Invercargill this week. I Mr. Ronald Lett, who lias been an inmate of the Napier hospital, is on a visit to his parents, Torotea road, for , the purpose of recuperating after his ! recent illness. Mr. B. R. Austin, Napier, was a .visitor to Pahiatua for the week-end. ! Mr. D. Chatwin, who _ has been spending a short holiday with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. G. Chatwin, returned to Wellington on Saturday. Mrs. J. D. C. Crewe, Mrs. H. Paterson, Mrs. A W. Hamilton and Mrs R. C. Austin spent Friday in Wellington for the purpose of attending the meeting held to form tho Southern Wellington Federation of Women’s Institutes and to bo present at the farewell function to Miss Jerome Spencer, founder of the Women’s Institutes in New Zealand, who loft that afternoon for England for an extended trip to the Old Country and abroad. Miss Davies, travelling secretary for the Anglican Girls’ Biblo Clas3 Union, was a visitor to Pahiatua iast week and attended the meeting of fet. Peters Bible Class, She gave a most interesting address to tho girls on the aims and activities of tho union, which was founded twelve years ago and now has a membership of 2,600 girls. She explained matters in connection with the annual camps, the last one being held in Auckland and the next one to be held at Havelock North, and altogether her talk was helpful and instructive. Miss Taylor, leader _ of the local club, thanked Miss Davies tor visiting them, and a dainty supper closed an enjoyable evening. Mr. Ivan Algic has been promoted to* the Masterton branch of Messrs. Hannah and Co., and Mr Knowle Lett has been appointed to the local start in his place. Mr. Algic was presented with a token of esteem by his fellow employees before his departure for Masterton. The engagement is announced or Olive Alison, only daughter of Mr and Mrs. Joseph Rose, Kohinui, Pahiatua, to Andrew William, only son of Mrs. A. L. Black and the late Mr. Andrew Black, Takapau, Hawke’s Day. Two past residents of Pahiatua, Mrs. W White-Scott (To Horo) and Miss M. C. Maddever (Wellington) were on Friday elected as executive officers of tho new Southern Wellington Federation of Women’s Institutes, Miss Maddever as president and Mrs. WhiteScott tho hon. secretary. Mr. A. Donald was a visitor to Wellington on Friday in connection with 1 the shipment of 2,000,000 gallons of Russian petrol which has arrived by tho oil tanker Reliance. A dinner was given to the captain and officers of * u -» tanker.
