Amalgamation of Power Board Area and City

DEPUTATION" PEOPOSAL LOST. The fact that no Teply had yet been received from tho Minister of Public Works (Et. Hon. J. Cf. Coates) in regard to the board’s representations concerning the amalgamation of the Palmerston North city area with the board’s area, was the subject of comment at tho meeting of tho ManawatuOroua Power Board yesterday. In introducing tho matter, Mr N. Campbell thought that a deputation should wait on Mr Coates to get his reply. In the controversy over tho location of tho board’s office, the major issue of amalgamation appeared to have been overlooked. Tho board had appointed a committee to investigate the whole of its workings and as a result of that investigation it might be found that a rate would have to be struck.

Mr J. Batchelar: Would not a letter prompt the Minister? Tho chairman (Mr. 0. McElroy): We put the matter to the Minister as clearly as we could. Mr. Campbell: I think he must have forgotten about it. We had better remind him. I think a deputation to Wellington would bo better that writing a letter. I movo that the chairman and the secretary interview the Minister. Mr. W. McKay seconded the motion. Mr. 0. 0. Bond: My memory is not fresh concerning the report on what reply was made to tho last deputation. What happened? Mr. C. G. C. Dormer,: The Minister said he would consider it and keep tho matter in view. I think wo would get the same reply now. Mr. J. Boyce: I do not think a deputation will do any good.

Mr. Campbell: We have got to keep things knocking. “We have been knocking and knocking and can keep on knocking,” commented Mr. P. G. Guy in stating that nothing could ever be achieved while men there allegedly were able to influence the minds of Ministers.

Mr. J. A. Nash, M.P.: That is not worth taking any notice of. Tho motion, on being put to the meeting, was lost.
