Two-and-a-half Years’ Gaol for Car Thieving

AUCKLAND, Last Night,
James Norman Richards, aged 24, a joiner, was sentenced to-day to six months’ hard labour to bo followed by two yours’ reformative treatment for converting motor cars. Finger prints on tho glass panel of one car which was abandoned were found to tally with tnose of Richards taken when he was previously in prison. Evidence was given by Constable A. B. Collmgc, of Palmerston North, that after hearing a broadcast description of the stolen car he accosted two men m a car, one of whom was Richards. While ho was questioning Richards he was struck on tho head from behind.
Another witness said no complaints about stolen cars had been received since Richards was arrested.
