The Tivoli

GEORGE WALLACE IN “HIS ROYAL HIGHNESS’'

A distinct flavour of novelty will be givon to the Efftee production of “His Royal Highness” in the different ballets. The first one to appear in the theatre rehearsal scenes is the type we are all used to seeing, young Australian girls, lithe and clean-limbed, and giving the impression of dancing for the joy of it. The other is a ballet of “heavy-weights,” dressed to look like fairies! These buxom young ladies appear in the elaborate palace scene in the mythical kingdom of B'Ctonia, when “His Royal Highness” calls for some diversity in his trying affairs of State. Unlike what is expected in a ballet of this type, they do not burlesque the dance. They were specially trained so that they carry out their work with at least an element of grace despite their enormous size. They leave the impression of eight otherwise attractive girls who have been reared on a diet akin to H. Or. Wells's “Food of the Gods.” Some clever overhead, photography has been used in this sequence which adds considerably to its effectiveness. “His Royal Highness” is the first musical comedy to be produced in Australia and features that well-known, comedian, George Wallace. In this story, which was written by him, many other players well known on the stage also give excellent performances. They include Byrl Walkley, Lou Vernon, John Dobbie, Donalda Warne, Frank Tarrant, Hell Taylor and Marshall Crosby. This latest Efftee release will be screened finally at the Tivoli Theatre to-night. The screening for Wednesday and Thursday will be “This is the Night,” with Lily Damita, Charles Buggies, Roland Young and Gary Grant. A matinee will be held tomorrow afternoon.
