Cope Wins Bogey Handicap The final summer competition, a bogey handicap, was played, in a strong gusty wind which was inclined to play tricks. The course, however, was in splendid order and some good golf resulted, the winning card, 2 up, being handed in by P. G. Copis, who played verv steadily. The 6 points which were allocated to the winner gave Cope the Glcndinning Cup—his win being a meritorious one in view of the keen competition taken in the series. Following arc the leading cards: P. E. R. Chapman, in receipt of 5 strokes from the Colonel, was round in S 3, his card, after taking 43 for the first half, reading: 44265 4 4a 4 —3S. Chapman, who had the distinction of sinking his teo shot at Lagoon Hill last season, very nearly repeated his effort and his putt, for a 2 was from about 12 inches away from the hole.

H. Palmer, one of last season’s promising players, took up summer golf this year and in the -week-end bogey handicap did the second half in 42 not bad going for a 14 handicap man. A remarkable effort was recorded by Basil Marsack, the Te Matai player, at Hokowhitu’s longest hole (563 yards). He was still short of the cross bunker with his second, but he played his third with a spoon and holed the shot for an eagle three and a net two. Though he had tho ‘‘‘breeze' with him, what wind there was was against him.

The Manawatu Club’s popular professional, J. R. Galloway, who, partnered by A. J. Shaw won the professional foursomes title -when the championships were decided at Hokowhitu, has been playing some bright golf during the summer, and on at least two occasions completed the course in better than 70, his best round being a GS. As an example of the sort of figures he has been recording, he was playing in a 3-ball recently, playing « best ball. He sank a short putt fora win in 3 at the first; a long putt for a 3 at the second; was 4 feet, away from the pin with his second at the third. Ho lipped tho hole with his putt, but easily secured a birdie four. “Jock” ran down a 10-footer for a 2 at the fourth, averaging 3’s up to that stage. Tho Strang’s green was like glass and he required 6, but he followed it with an eagle 3 at Cliff view. His card at that stage read 3 3 4 2 6 3.
