AUSTRALIAN WOMAN'S VIEWS “Soviet conditions would not be acceptable to Australia, just as Australian conditions would puzzle Russia,” says a Sydney girl, formerly Miss Joyce Taylor, who is now the wife of Mr Henry Pynor, a former Melbourne architect, employed in Moscow. Interviewed in London, Mrs Pynor, who worked for a year on the staff of the Moscow News, the Soviet’s daily paper printed in English, said: “I cannot imagine Australian girls mixing their own make-up owing to the scarcity of lipstick and powder, or developing their muscles instead, of dieting. “Slimncsa is considered unwomanly in Russia. It is fashionablo to be sturdy. Communist women smoke and drink less than Englishwomen, but they are fond of cosmetics, especially the ■women tram conductors. “Many Australians in Moscow are working as carpenters, plumbers, artists and journalists. I visited most Russian cities and found the streets safer late at night than in Melbourne or Sydney."
