Crown Minister Denies Misrepresentation Claim

PRACTISING FEE TO BE PAID BY MEDICAL PRACTITIONERS

Per Press Association

WELLINGTON, Last Night

Hon. R. Masters, Deputy-Leader ox tho Legislative Council, mentioned today that he had been accused of misrepresenting the position in respect ot the amount of the annual practising fee to bo paid by medical practitioners. “All I can say,” said the Minister, “is that the Medical Council, wuien consists wholly of medical practitioners had referred to it, with the authority of the Minister of Health, the question whether the medical profession should pay an annual practising fee sufficient to cover the cost of administration of the Medical Council. I am advised that a fee of 5s was suggested but was considered to be undignified, and that the council had represented that a fee of one guinea would be preferable. There is a nominated member of the B.M.A. on the Medical Council, and this representative was present at the meeting. It will be seen, therefore, I correctly stated tho position and there has been no misrepresentation on my part. This statement is confirmed by my colleague, the Hon. Minister of Health.”
