Rev. E. Nichols, pastor of the Hastings Baptist Church, arrived in Palmerston North last night. Over the week-end ho will be tho guest of Mr. and Mrs. W. Wilby, at 63 Lombard street.

Mr. K. G. Hume, inspector of the Bank of Now Zealand, is at present relieving as manager of tho Palmerston North branch pending the arrival of Mr. F. G. Major, of Wellington, appointed to succeed Mr. W. G. Miller.

Messrs. E. S. Hoddinott and J. S. Willoughby woro tho guests of honour at a valedictory function at the Cuba Street Methodist Church on Thursday evening. Mr Hoddinott will bo engaged in homo mission work in North Auckland, while Mr. Willoughby is to take up studies at Trinity College, Auckland. Many tributes were paid to tho work of tho two young men as local preachers, and as a token of esteem a number of presentations woro made on behalf of various organisations connected with the church. Mr Hoddinott was formerly on the staff of ' tho Manawatu Daily Times.

A resident of Napier for over 50 years and head of the firm of Messrs. Sainsbury, Logan and Williams, barristers and solicitors, Mr. Francis Logan passed away quietly at his home in Napier on Wednesday evening at the age of 76 years. Tho late Mr. Logan brought great honour to the legal profession. Ho was keenly interested in all branches of sport, particularly Rugby and cricket, having represented Hawke’s Bay against an Australian eleven; while at tennis early in the present century he held the New Zealand doubles championship with Minden Fenwick (Hastings). He wa's chancellor for the Anglican dioccso of Waiapa for 20 years. He leaves a widow and two sons, Mr Francis Logan (Kcrcru), chairman of the Hawke’s Bay County Council, and Mr. Ivan Logan (Napier).
